An ancient, spiritual and sacred form of Lomi-Lomi practiced by Hawaiian shamans in the temples of Hawaii as a sacred rite of passage. This form of bodywork holds sacred space for personal transformation, celebration, healing from within and expanding awareness, both physically and energetically, through heart-centered, nurturing conscious touch. This particular style of Lomi-Lomi uses a combination of long, gentle, and rhythmic strokes along with breath, slow-motion movements and specialized music. There is no set routine in this massage, the body is exposed during the treatment to allow full-length body strokes. If requested, a sarong or small towel can be placed over the groin area. Temple Style Lomi-Lomi uses forearms to deliver smooth flowing strokes down the entire length of the body, or elbows and knuckles where deep pressure is needed.

Originally designed to enlighten the being in the physical body, the sacred practice of Lomi-Lomi incorporates movement, breath, dance, and the power of intention and presence. Honoring the body as a temple of the soul, this massage is a transformational experience to free the body of long held stress patterns, using deep and gentle rhythmic strokes of the facilitator’s forearms, connecting the giver and receiver in a beautiful “dance.” These strokes create an immense outpouring of energy, lulling you into a deep meditative state of bliss. The focus is on letting go, quieting the mind of its chatter, and allowing your Self to receive unconditionally. This unique bodywork reweaves a new way of being, becoming a profound contemporary rite of passage that facilitates and celebrates the meaningful transitions in your life. Many find it to be a unique and profound heart opening experience.

Temple Style Lomi-Lomi integrates the ancient practices with heart-centered touching. Many styles of bodywork separate the physical and energetic. In Temple Style Lomi-Lomi I embrace the integrated whole being - physical, emotional and energetic. By creating a sacred space of unconditional love and acceptance (aloha), I invite the recipient to completely let go and receive. The flowing, circular runs nurture and embrace, clearing out the old patterns and awakening the divine in the physical being.

The legend that was passed down describes a ritual incorporating fire, drumming, chanting, and shamanic movement. The Kahuna would call on the wisdom of their ancestry and request a vision so they would know who was next to receive this sacred rite of passage. The ritual was designed to awaken and enlighten the being in the physical body; to awaken one’s true calling in life and to provide a space for them to receive visions and transformation. In the ancient temples, the initiate is believed to have received this work for an extended period of time by multiple practitioners. Today, the practice has shifted, but the original intention remains the same.

The Hawaiians look at things in terms of energy flow, following the idea that negative thinking or beliefs can block energy flow as much as muscle tension can. Temple Style Lomi-Lomi helps release the blockages, whilst at the same time giving the energy new direction. Thus Lomi-Lomi is not just a physical experience; it also facilitates healing on the mental, emotional and spiritual levels as well. The Hawaiians view all aspects of the body as one and believe that the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual are all part of the "whole" self - when healing is effected on one level, all levels are affected.

When harmony is lacking the effect is pain physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually. Illness is a state of tension, which leads to resistance which blocks energy movement. Temple Style Lomi-Lomi helps release this and therefore facilitates the road to healing. On the physical level, through Lomi-Lomi, stress and tension are relieved, blood and lymph flow assisted and the elimination of wastes and toxins is being stimulated.

So, what happens during a Temple Style Lomi Lomi massage? How is it performed? A Lomi Lomi usually commences with a stillness between the practitioner and client, often with the practitioners hands gently resting on the clients back. In this stillness the practitioner will quietly say a blessing or prayer asking for whatever healing is needed to take place during the massage. Alternatively or as well, the client may be asked to set their intention for any healing they would like to receive. The masseuse then works very intuitively with the client. In this respect there is no set format or sequence for the massage and no two massages will ever be identical.

The massage is given in fluid, rhythmic motion using the forearms, elbows, fists and knuckles, as well as the hands. Some people have described this as feeling like gentle waves moving over the body. Another feature is that different parts of the body may be massaged at the same time, for example one arm or hand may be working on a shoulder and the other hand may be working on the opposite hip. This assists the recipient in totally relaxing as it is impossible or at least extremely difficult for the brain to focus on the two different areas at once. By not working on areas in isolation a deep sense of balance and harmony is achieved. As I said earlier, whilst technique is important, the priority is loving the body, using intuition so the massage is "right" for the client. The client on the table is not viewed as someone to be fixed, but a being to be returned to harmony and balance. It is important to remember that the practitioner does not heal but is the facilitator for the healing.

QT's unique Hawaiian Temple Style Sacred Lomi-Lomi is performed on a heated, warm-oiled table, with strokes applied simultaneously to the front and back of the body (Nirvana Method). Also, some rare massage techniques and a sophisticated form of healing energy work (Quantum Touch) are integrated into this bodywork. At the heart of these sessions is a sense of empowering each individual to regain a sense of harmony, rejuvenation, and balance, and to awaken inner resources for healing. Each session is tailored by personal requests, needs, comfort level, physical tension, desired releases, and the felt sense of intuition. This bodywork does not address lower chakras and sexual energy specifically.

Optionally, hot stones can be used to enhance the therapeutic effect of the treatment, increase circulation and work into deeper muscles without using excessive force. Water-heated stones are placed at specific sites on the client's body to promote relaxation and to help open up the meridians (energy pathways). Muscles are pretreated with the heated stones to allow the healer to more easily perform deep tissue manipulations. Cool stones are sometimes used alternately with hot stones. Massage oils are usually incorporated into this treatment. Stones are smooth, black volcanic rocks (basalt) that absorbs and retains heat well.
