Esalen massage is a holistic practice known for its healing and nurturing touch, combining long strokes, gentle rocking and stretching, sculpting of deep musculature, and the precision of acupressure. The most important aspect style wise or technique wise is not technique at all, but the quality of  the touch. This refers to the presence of the practitioner and the ability of this person to focus on the session and to tune into the client's body, to be sensitive, and to pick up messages. Esalen massage is an interactive experience and a lot of it is interactive on an energetic level.

 

 

Another element of Esalen massage involves giving the person a chance to pause and integrate the work. The process is a sort of moving meditation, when the entire practitioner's body is put into the massage, not simply the hands.
Esalen massage is set apart as a unique style because it also reflects an attitude about touching, caring, energy awareness and emotional, spiritual healing besides just physical manipulation. Part of the attitude of Esalen is that touching is a basic need, as essential as air, food or water; that caring about others is natural; that getting in touch with one's own body leads to a more effective way of loving and relating to others, and that healing comes from within as well as from the outside.

 

 

Besides being therapeutic and deeply relaxing, Esalen massage is intended to feel good; its philosophy is based on the wisdom that feeling good is good for you in the body as well as in emotions and spirit. Esalen massagers believe that pleasure itself is therapeutic. Esalen massage is not sexually oriented, but it is very intimate, feels extremely sensual and delightfully pleasurable. According to true Esalen ideals, the massage is performed without draping, to an entirely nude body (if it's OK with the client), with slow, continuous, fluid-like full body strokes and deep breathing. Esalen massage promotes sensory re-awakening.

 

 

Esalen massage itself grew from a blend of ideas and practices: Swedish massage, martial arts, yoga, tai chi, chi gung, Western applied kinesiology, somatic arts, body work, subtle energy theories, polarity, cranial-sacral work, sports massage and native healing rituals. Certain signature elements are unique to Esalen massage, such as long, lengthening integrative strokes. Also, it's intuitive-based. Because it is an eclectic mix, there is no singular form of Esalen massage. Every practitioner of the Esalen massage interprets it in slightly different ways, creating his/her personal Art form, because they intuitively sense the client's physical and non-physical cues.

 

 

The effects of this intentional touch, loosely categorized as "wellness/stress management massage", range widely. For some, it brings a renewed sense of health and vigor, others may regain a sense of safety with regard to touch. Often old tension patterns break free and old emotions are released. It signals a return to one's nature, a switch from everyday consciousness into a calmer, more colorful space less inhabited by the constraints of time and place. An out-of-ordinary reality.

 

 

QT's unique Heavenly Esalen Style Bodywork is performed on a heated, warm-oiled table, with strokes applied simultaneously to the front and back of the body (Nirvana Method). Also, some rare massage techniques and a sophisticated form of healing energy work (Quantum Touch) are integrated into this bodywork. At the heart of this session is a sense of empowering each individual to regain a sense of harmony, rejuvenation, and balance, and to awaken inner resources for healing. Each session is tailored by personal requests, needs, comfort level, physical tension, desired releases, and the felt sense of intuition. This bodywork does not address lower chakras and sexual energy specifically.

 
 

Optionally, Hot Stone Massage can be integrated with this bodywork to enhance the therapeutic effect of the treatment, increase circulation and work into deeper muscles without using excessive force.
